In late April, nearly one thousand peonies of Dafugui, Zhushapan, Qihua Lushuang and other varieties in Wangcheng Park entered the full blossom period. The blooming herbaceous peonies echo with the alpine peonies to present another highlight of the park.
Herbaceous peony (paeonia lactiflora), with bright colors, rich patterns and strong fragrance, is honored as “premier of flowers”, while peony (paeonia suffruticosa) is deemed as the king of flowers. However, it is rare to see both in full blossom at the same time, as peony fully blooms in early and middle of April, while herbaceous peony follows to bloom in full in early May.
Wangcheng Park introduces more than 3,000 alpine peonies that enjoy a full bloom only after the other peonies. This way, tourists now have the chance to witness the beauty of both alpine peonies and herbaceous peonies in the same scene.
